Taking Breaks at Work

For many of us, our job includes staring at a computer monitor from a close range. This can strain our eyes and impact our vision. Furthermore, by being seated in front of this monitor, we are reducing blood circulation and we are remaining sedentary for too long. It is important to take breaks for a variety of reasons.

  1. Stretch breaks: Take a five to ten minute stretch break every hour to keep your muscles working and your blood flowing. It will also recharge you and get you ready to go back to work.
  2. Reading breaks: Bring a book to work to take a break with so that you can take a break from staring at the bright computer monitor. This gives your eyes a break and will let you re-focus.
  3. Drawing breaks: When we work on one thing for too long, we tend to make mistakes and let things slip past us. This can lead to errors and inconsistencies. If you take a break to draw for five minutes, you will keep your mind stimulated in a way that does not interfere with your work or make you lose track of your assignments.
  4. Outdoor breaks: Try to take some time for yourself by taking a brief walk outside every day. The fresh air will rejuvenate you and make you feel ready to go back to work. If you have the option of eating your lunch outside, take a work buddy and enjoy an outdoor picnic. It gives you something fun to look forward to in the day.

Just make sure that you’re not neglecting your work or violating any company policies by taking these breaks. Stay productive and focused but give your mind time to wander away from work. Try these tips to keep your day flowing!
